Hitachi Travelstar 7k60 7200 RPM in X20?

#1 Post by rlc5 » Wed Dec 15, 2004 8:22 am

Does anyone have experience with the HDD described below installed in an X20? (Mine is a 600MHz PIII with 384 MB RAM.) If so, how noticeable is the performance difference, casually speaking?

Hitachi Travelstar 7K60 60GB 2.5-inch hard disk drive
The Hitachi Travelstar 7K60 is a 9.5mm high, 7200 RPM, 2.5-inch mobile hard disk drive. The Travelstar 7K60 is the 28th generation addition of a long heritage of Travelstar mobile drives.

Thanks,

Rick

I've used an X20 with a 7k60 for a few months before now (which sucked, I was using it as a main pc which it isn't well suited to being). The speed difference is quite good, overall responsiveness was improved but it's not as fast as a laptop with DDR memory and a faster processor, so it does hit its limits pretty quickly.

No temperature problems although the drive did cause the laptop to vibrate more than it would otherwise due to the higher speed.

my s30 has the same processor but only 256mb PC100 ram.   after installing a 40gb E7K60, startup times dropped in half down to about 40~45 seconds.

going to 7200rpm is a very noticeable upgrade.
