Dock II planar surgery

#1 Post by chuckenheimer » Wed Jun 04, 2008 1:36 am

The planar in my Dock II is somewhat jagged around the PCI card installment area, cut is outside of the die line. This was not a problem until I purchased a PCI card that is a bit bulkier at the metal upright along the backplane where the set screw secures it.

I have my trusty Dremel tool with the appropriate cutter but am waiting on my Mini-Vac to arrive, hoping to leave no shavings when performing the surgery. I didn't want to disassemble the Dock II - it appears to be reachable with the plate removed - but felt I might ask those more advanced for pre-advice.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

The Dock II top cover is not that hard to remove, around 9 screws. You will need a #0 Phillips driver while Thinkpads use #1.

Thanks. Is there a hardware manual for the Dock II. The user guide isn't that technical as I seem to recall.

I don't believe there is a HMM for the docks. There are a lot of screws in Dock II. Be careful with the two springs for the lock down hooks and the eject button. The spring are easy to lose and the eject button is very complex mechanically.

There are HMM's for the ThinkPad docks.
Go to the Lenovo 'Support & downloads' page and enter the type number. In case of the dock II it is 2877.
There is a separate manual for docking solutions.
For the Dock II the same material is also included in the T4x HMM's.
Unfortunately, it does not go any further than describing how to remove the top cover.
