"CD IS ONLY BOOTABLE" message not go away even after removal

Upon clicking it several times couple of hours later.

Sounds like a HDD failure to me. Do you have another machine you can stick that drive in as a secondary drive? If so you might get lucky and be able to copy off some of the data.
