Anybody solved the 2010 error on T43 2668?

#1 Post by rain1984 » Thu Jun 05, 2008 2:57 am

I bought a new HITACHI 160GB hard disk, but after installed on my computer I saw a 2010 error, though I can skip it and run the system ok, it is uncomfortable! SB told me about the firmware, but it seems there's no firmware for 5k160 HDD :(

2010: Warning: Your internal hard disk drive (HDD) may not function correctly on this system. Ensure that your HDD is supported on this system and that the latest HDD firmware is installed.

There is much written on this forum regarding this error. If you have the latest BIOS you can set your ThinkPad to automatically continue a few seconds after the error. This is how I setup any T43 that utilizes a hard drive with a non approved firmware with absolutely no issue.

No boot-time delay is necessary

But there's no reason for this. Just flash the firmware (as described elsewhere in this forum) of the HDD (in my case, the Hitachi 7K100), which changes the firmware code from a O (as in OEM) to an I (as in IBM). Then no delay is required when booting, since the T43 BIOS then recognizes the HDD is a "native" drive.

Matt

Note that flashing firmware is only possible with a very few non-OEM model drives – the HGST 7K100 series being one of them. Others can not be flashed, even if they are on the list in the HDD FW update utility.

For most users, you will not see a problem. If you read the several pages written on this topic, you will learn that some of the hard drive protection level offered by Active Protection System will not function on a stock drive which lacks the additional SATA commands. Specifically, these offer protection of the drive when exposed to a certain range of shock (Laptop being dropped) in a certain range of directional axis.

So far as I know, there are 4 ways to solve the problem:
1:Degraded your bios to 1.02 , I don't think it is good, updates always modify some bugs.
2:update firmware (only for some lucky guys who bought the listed HDD) MY HDD IS NOT ON LIST :(
3: Get a CD-rom HDD adapter. I am working on this
4:The fujistu 120 GB HDD Model: MHV 2120AH (5400R/M) ,MHV2120 AT(4200R/M) or some other MHVs but not 120GB.
