Pictures of your ThinkPad & Desk (1024x768 max please!)

#1 Post by Blake » Wed Dec 15, 2004 7:59 pm

well most forums have one, so ill try to start something out...

here is my x31 with ultrabase (see bottom for specs, also freshly debadged), 172s samsung lcd running at 1280 x 1024 when used alone, and some other computer stuff.

yes is a mac keyboard. its great!

ps does anyone know how to make it so when you run dual monitors, you can switch what side the secondary is on?

also how can i close the lid and not make it sleep when in the dock?

In power settings, select "Do nothing" when display is closed.

I like your pipe frame desk.

Setting up a profile in "Presentation Director" allows you to define the side - you could have 2 profile set up - one "Left" and one "Right"

there is an athlon tower thru a kvm not hooked up yet, nor bother printers. there is also a lcd tv to the left so i can allways have tv to watch.

but it does get very messy,

The only problem that I have with that is that if the discussions stay there it still locks people with slow connections out of the conversation. As always, though, it's your call.

Eriqesque,

How's that MX1000??? Accuracy? Transmission speed (any lag)? Battery life? I've never had a wireless mouse before and that MX1000 is calling my name but I've always been a bit skeptical about the performance of wireless input devices. Besides, my MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 is getting boring and the left click button doesn't work as well anymore (has a tendency to "double-click" and stuff). I've also never really liked Logitech products (I can honestly admit just b/c of the name, label king here). If that MX1000 is really what the company claims then I'll buy one, if not, i'll but another MS Intellimouse Explorer.

As for everyone's setup's, very nice. :D

P.S. Nice pair of B&O's you got there. I'm dying to get a BeoCom 2. Even though I have 4 Beocom 6K's in the house. B&O fanatic.

The MX1000 is all they say and more it is simply the best mouse I have ever used.
I experience no lag at all and very smooth and precise it really does act like a corded mouse.
The battery is very good also not wuite what they claim.
But they usually aren't
I used to only buy Microsoft Mice and after getting the Mx1000
I am a believer in Logitech now. The new V500 notebook mouse I have, also is fantastic ( the only thing that would have made it perfect would've been if it were bluetooth)
And yes love those little earphones.

Not a very good image of the Thinkpad itself. But you get the idea.

I hear ya, James! Mine's not that clean, but I would go insane if it was like some of the others in this thread. Nothing wrong with a little "organized chaos" or whatever, its just not the way I like to work! :)

i dont have the option of movint the monitors around in Display -> Settings.

i would like to get it to have a primary and secondary, and be able to define which one is attached in the settings tab, but it's just not there. i have to resort the ati display tab under advanced. it's very annoying. does anyone have a solution for this??

btw, i am running win2k if that matters.

It sure looks like my real Herman Miller Aeron!

What a great chair! One dowside to it, the pellicle material (netting) is very hard on clothes. I must sit with my wallet out of my trousers or the wallets form will wear into the trousers after a couple of months!

I ruined six or seven nice sets of trousers in that chair, but I will not ever give up the chair either!

BTW, all of you with clean desks, you scare me :-)

It sure is! Greatest chair of all time, in my opinion. Of course, its pretty [censored] expensive (retail is something like $800). The Aeron is like a Thinkpad, in that they are not heavily advertised and don't appeal to the masses.....but once you use one, you never go back to anything else. :P

yea they are sweet, ive been looking at them, but they are out of the budget.

its intresting you have $3500 between a chair and a thinkpad and then you have a basic folding table for a desk.

Haha.. nice.

Are you an Office Depot Advantage member or employee? Just seeing some things that we sell in the store (namely the filing boxes, the box of manila/yellow file folders, and possibly the aforementioned folding desk).

Just curiosity and sad work details coming out... :D

haha yeah its all I could afford, after the computer and chair!!

No but seriously, I got the Aeron at a ridiculous discount (surplus from a friend's company, one of the dot-bomb victims who had splurged on Aerons for all their employees), and the Thinkpad from school, so I don't have nearly that much invested in both items....about $1500 less than you estimated. And the table....its simple but functional, and if I scratch it up I just put down another $29.99 for a brand new one! 8)

As far as wallets and chairs go, my padded desk chair has somewhat of an imprint in the seat where my wallet usually goes.

I sat on an aeron for a few minutes a couple weeks ago and didn't feel anything special. Maybe I needed more time to appreciate it?

Somehow I knew I'd see alot of tidy desk setups here, it sort of goes along with the stereotype that shrinks prefer macs....

I wish my wallet was fat enough to do that, right now, it's on the virge of implosion. But things aren't looking down too far, paychecks just got mailed out today, YAY! :)

I'd like to have a picture of my desk with my ThinkPad at it, but frankly, it doesn't even have enough room for my Handspring, let alone my ThinkPad. Maybe in a week or so if I get around to cleaning up around here.

Seems to be some kind of "three" motif going on in there....three displays, three routers/switches underneath the desk, three candles on the right side of the desk.....is this intentional? :P Or maybe I've been writing too many papers for my lit class....
