Is this dead X41t savable?

#1 Post by WildCard » Thu Jun 05, 2008 6:34 pm

I am a geek with a pc tech background - and I am stumped and come to you guys for advice.

I have an X41t, bought it used and it's my favorite machine. It sees light daily use.

Used it two days ago, put it into hibernate. Yesterday it wouldn't power at all and I assumed the battery was dead (original battery that is pooping out, lasts 45 mins tops with normal web browsing use). I plugged it in and went to bed. Woke up this am and it didn't work. Just assumed the problem was with the power adapter, so I found another and it is just as dead.

Normally when I plug the power cable in with the power off, I see the recharging indicator light light in some fashion. Today, none with either adapter.

It appears that it is dead. With a PC the first thing I would do it try another power supply. But with a laptop, I don't know what to do. So far, I did:

1) Tried another IBM power adapter
2) Tried another power jack
3) Tried powering it on with the battery removed
4) Held down power button for 10 seconds.

I am at a loss. Any ideas other than, send her in for warranty? It took no drops, wasn't in hot or cold temps, nothing wet. For as many computers I have worked on, I've found that having a PC just die is actually rare compared to other abuse situations...

Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated. Hopefully there is a fuse or reset.

Thanks in advance all,
WC

If you still have warranty left on that tablet, time to use it...not much that you could find out without opening the unit, and I wouldn't advise you to do that if it's still covered.

Good luck and let us know.
