X61 and X61s differences ???
X61 and X61s differences ???
What are the basic differences between these two models?
The X61s just has lower voltage processors? I understand there is a difference in the screens? Is that an option, or a standard difference? Are they different sizes? Are there any other differences?
Is there any news on a replacement model? I would wait if there was a higher resolution screen on the horizon? Will it be the X70? I cannot afford a X300, and I think they are a bit too big for me anyway.
Thanks.

The UltraLight screen is only available on the X61s. The X61s also a bit smaller and lighter, but there's not really a whole lot of room for improvement over the X61.
Personally, I don't see the point of the X61s.

The UL LCD is an option, not a norm on X61s. Apart from CPU, everything else is pretty much the same.
Higher resolution...I don't believe so. Not while they're in 4:3 form anyway. No non-tablet X series had anything but XGA.
In all likelyhood, the new X series will resemble X300, in somewhat smaller format, but widescreen. If this is OK by you, start putting money away because these won't come cheap. If you prefer standard LCD, you may want to start shopping around...
Hope this helps.

X61s is 0.3" thinner and 0.3 lb lighter. I tried both and went with the X61.
now: X61, T42p
before: 600E, T23, X20, T40, X40, X31, T60
FS: Travel Bezel, 100GB drive (OEM Lenovo)

The X61s gets about an extra 1/2 hour out of either of the 4 cell batteries or an extra hour out of the 8 cell. Also, the optional UL LCD is a bit brighter.
With the slim 4-cell battery it is about .4lb lighter (about 15%) than the X61 with the enhanced 4-cell and about 1.1" thick instead of 1.4".
I find the size difference meaningful with the slim 4 cell - much less so with an 8 cell.
It is likely that a wide-screen X200/X200s will replace it within the next 90 days.

Thanks for all the info. I might get a used X60s/X61s for a while, but I am really looking forward to the X200. I really need to have more screen resolution. Looks like it will have a webcam as well, so that is another bonus. I really hope it will be cheaper than the X300 and not even more expensive!
I've just read that Intel have delayed the release of the Centrino 2 Montevina platform, so probably the X200 will be delayed as well.
