Q's on Extending WiFi

#1 Post by Harryc » Fri Jun 06, 2008 9:11 pm

A friend has been asking me to look into solutions for extending home wireless from one structure to another on his property, say 100 yards or so. I don't think he'd be into building cantenna's for example...but I was thinking along the lines of a long range wireless bridge. Has anyone looked into this area and can you offer a solution that is both commercial and relatively inexpensive, lets say under $200?

Get a pair of Linksys WET54G's and a pair of patch antenna's.
That should work pretty well. If you need remote placement you can power the Linksys boxes over the ethernet and put them in an enclosure.

Dual boot XP and Linux Mint.

How about a signal booster? Here is one by Hawking. I have a 7DBi booster by Hawking and I can get a good signal across the street from my house.

Another good suggestion, I'll pass it along. I think he's looking more for a bridge though.

Guaranteed cheapest "hack"

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/837885/wifi_antenna_hack/

I've done it with my router and antennas. I not only get 5/5bars everywhere but also pick up the networks of neighbors I didn't know existed.
