Sending video from my Z61m to my HDTV

#1 Post by dejola » Sun Jun 08, 2008 8:45 pm

I have a Thinkpad Z61m and a 5 year old 36 inch Sony HD capable TV. I like to be able to send my video to the TV. I am mainly interested in being able to view past episodes of the public television show, Frontline. They have some 72 episodes in the archive at their web site.

Can someone tell me what I need and how to do it? Somone told me I need to get a VGA cable and that's it. I'm not so sure it's that simple.

I'd appreciate hearing from someone who has done this and who can walk me through the steps to get it done.

Thanks.

John

well i'm sure your TV has Composite and even component inputs but what others does it have? There are VGA to Component converters that you can use but if your TV does have the VGA port then it's simple as plugging it in and then enabling the second monitor in Windows.

If you have a dock then you can do DVI to DVI cable also but it all depends on which ports your TV has to be able to connect to the laptop.

Does your Z61m have an S-Video out? If so, you could use that one (+S-Video cable), assuming your TV has an S-Video in but no VGA port.

Yes, it does have an S=video port but I am yold that the video will be better if VGA is used instead of S-video.

Thanks for your response.

Yes, it will be better with VGA. What I meant to say is use S-Video, if your TV does not have a VGA port.
