It's looking really nice!

Only thing is I've got to figure out a way to cool down the system a bit. The palmrest on my X61 gets rather warm (on the hotter side). Stays cool in XP though.

ZOMG! But I've become quite attached to v4... Although v5 does have access to more apps. :D

I assume theres a way to upgrade v4 to v5 without a complete reinstall right, coz I've got mine setup just the way I like it.

EDIT: Well going from what I've quickly browsed through, it seems that its proably better to just do a fresh install rather than attempt an upgrade.

Hmm... I believe I may have solved the "heat" issue in the X61 palmrest while using Mint 5.0 ... Turns out the OS installs NM (Network Manager) by default as a networking connectivity solution. This loads the wifi module by default - thus turning the wifi card on full power at bootup. Since the wifi card resides just below the right palmrest, and given that it's turned on to full power, the palmrest inevitably heats up rather quickly. I've tried unloading the wifi module, but some other setting elsewhere re-initializes the auto-on (wifi) after every bootup.

What I've done is ditch NM completely and installed WICD instead. Happy to state that the palmrest (where the wifi card resides) is much, much cooler now than it was before and at least now I get the option of turning the wifi on when I need it and not having it on by default.

Dont forget to check if your drive might die prematurely. I checked after installing Elyssa and it was !

Ooo.. I see now.

But then, anyone using any distro would be affected should they enable "laptop mode". Not very convincing that it's only Ubuntu(-like) distro(s) that are affected here... Heck you'd figure that gentoo, with all that compiling, would kill your hardware faster than some docile deb based distro...

Right, installed Mint 5 and it sure looks awesome. Really like the uninstall feature in the 'start menu' and for some reason desktop effects decided to start working, definatley an extra plus :D Even it setup just the way I had it - although for some reason Warsow refuses to launch...

Anyway.. sooo you're telling me I should not enable "laptop mode" on my t60?

Probably true. I make no claims to the veracity of this information myself. I am only relaying what I read elsewhere. I first saw this information on a Mandriva forum about a year or so ago.
