Solution: Backlight Control In Leopard

Hi,

as I've read a lot of people have problems with controlling the backlight in OSX. For my X60T I've found a solution (tried with Leo4All 10.5.2).

Install the Apple Framebuffer provided below (for instance fast and easy with kexthelper). Afterwards you should be able to adjust your backlight like in any other OS. For me that means I'm quite close to having a fully functional OSX60T

This should also work with tiger. This is not my work, just my hint for you guys. Worship the people providing their knowledge on insanelymac.com.

Good call for posting this over here, but unfortunately this will not work on current laptops with the GMA X3100.

Maybe we can solve this though....

When launching with the old kext it does not actually boot. It hangs on the last part of boot-- launching LoginWindow.app. GMA950 works fine with the old framebuffer, but the X3100 fails

Nevertheless if you're running an older laptop *thumbs up*

Thx for the hint & sorry for putting a possibly misleading solution here. I hope noone got too much trouble by using this kext with his X3100.

Actually the kext also has a big backdraw for the 950: It brings back mouse artifacts e.g. in firefox - that's really annoying.

So still fighting with this issue...

Backlight control works on my T60p;however, decreasing the brightness, the left side goes out first. I think it be the different backlight alignment.

Pretty sure that for the x3100 the issue resides in AppleIntegratedGMAX3100FB.kext. I'm pretty sure this is the specific Framebuffer .kext (the other one mentioned in this topic is useless with this card, and doesn't control anything).

It seems like this kext locks the highest backlight control in and doesn't let it change. If you start up the computer with a low level of brightness, it resets the memory bank to the highest possible. I don't necessarily think we have to mess around with the (unintelligible) AppleBacklight.kext, but rather this GMAX3100FB.kext.

Hi, I installed the kext I download from above link on my x60s and now I can't start OSX. It freezes in the Apple gray screen.

Did not made a backup from the original. What to do now?


Can I recover from the CD's? What are the commands, steps?
