2378-EXU barebone shipping

#1 Post by akeskira » Tue Jun 01, 2004 11:47 pm

I ordered two 2378-EXU barebones. Until this morning the status page showed shipping estimate on 6/3. Today it had changed to "Status: Contact sales representative - 1-877-999-7115". Has anyone of you faced the same? Have you called IBM and if yes, what did they tell, and what was the outcome?

Regards,

Antti

I had the same problem once when I ordered a memory module for my TP. I was about to call IBM, when I checked the website again, and it said shipped. Well, yours might be a mistake too. Just give them a call.

My 2379-EZU model also was supposed to ship tomorrow and status changed to Please Call. I used the button on the page to request additional status/ new estimated ship date. On a positive note the new DVDRW ultrabay slim drive I ordered the same day as the EZU thinkpad is now in packing status (after one Please Call status on it a couple of weeks ago).

Simple solution would be to Call them.

I thought you weren't allowed to order barebones?

I did while they were visible on their website immediately after the launch. *keeping fingers crossed*, if I get the EXU for $1398 I'll be a happy man :)

I called the sales rep and they told the order is just backordered for 15 days or sp. They didn't whine anything about the barebone model.

So there is no HD, RAM, and OS installed, right? Cool. Keep us informed when you get it.

i don't think it includes a battery and wifi either. that is why i decided to cancel my 2373-buu because it cost the same trying to get parts cheaper on ebay.

I compared EXU and DXU (barebone & furnished) models. If I buy the similar components off the internet, I save $500. Add a few bucks for shipping etc.

See the following table (pardon the formatting):

Price OS HD Optical Memory Battery Wireless Total
2378-EXU $1,398.00 $0.00 (Linux) $114.00 $180.00 $95.00 $75.00 $59.00 $1,921.00
2378-DXU $2,429.00 XP Pro 60 GB CDRW/DVD 512 MB 6 Cell 2200BG $2,429.00
Difference $508.00

I spoke to IBM, and he said they didn't sell them as barebones, you were required to select the HD, memory etc. You purchased it as barebones?

Yes. If you clicked the customize-button, the base price jumped $500+. So I just added the non-configured base-barebone to my shopping cart and ordered that.
