IBM Thinkpad T40, Multiple Driver problems :(

#1 Post by ntrsfrml » Thu Dec 16, 2004 5:13 pm

hey guys, I just bought an IBM T40 from a guy in Alberta.. he forgot to mail me backup cds and will send me in snail mail now

I wanna take this lappy to office, so i Re-installed My Windows XP PRO on it and now I'm missing some drivers.. I looked at IBM Support site, downloaded all drivers, installed.. But they are still not detected?

This is what i have IBM T40 ThinkPad Model #23737FU with 1.7Ghz Banias chip, 1GB Ram, ATI 7500 Mobile graphics, Intel Audio( i think...) and Intel Gigabit Lan..

I was able to download/install the 855 chipset utility off Intel's site.. and SM Bus is gone from device manager :)

Please help me out here.. :(

Snail mail doesn't take that long. I suggest you wait for the CD's and re-image properly. Your problems should vanish. I think your's is a case in point that using the image as IBM supplied any time in the last three years or so is really the best way to go (in my own opinion) ... JD Hurst

um...i might be wrong but i don't think the t40 goes to 1.7...when i bought mine it was t40p @ max of 1.6......

so i'm thinking even if your recovery cds come in they won't be of much use.

But I could be totally wrong, so if I am don't listen to me, and just be like *urg* this guy is an idiot :)

Yes, I have to agree that 1.7GHz would make is a Dothan, not Banaias.

But anyway, what do you mean when you say that you've installed the drivers but the things are not detected? You realise that when you run the .exe files that you download from IBM, they just extract the files to a folder on your hard drive, and then you either have to use IBM Software Installer to install them, or manually do it yourself, right? That's most likely to be your problem.
T60p (200784U) - standard (no upgrades... yet)
