T42 wifi won't connect to lan

#1 Post by bwgolling » Fri Jun 13, 2008 12:22 pm

I just picked up 2 thinkpads. A t30 with a wifi card that connects w/o problems to my wireless router, and a t42 with internal wifi that is giving me a problem.

The machine seeks and finds the router. It then asks me to configure the setup which seems to be no prob.

Then when it tries to connect a problem seems to come up the wep security. I am sure that I am using the correct code.

I have a feeling that there is an interaction between that Thinkvantage stuff and windows. Does anyone know what I am missing here.

BTW both machines are running xp pro

Thanks in advance
Bruce

First thing I do with any new thinkpad is delete Access Connections - nothing but a headache!

Advisable to use Windows to control your wireless connectivity, as sktn77a suggested avoid Access Connections. Nice feature but most of us don't need such added complexity. Let us know how you get on.

Yeah, I am having a lot of problems with this too.

When I use my T42 at home, using my ISP software, which accesses the router via a LAN cable, I can get online no problems (I am at home now)

When I connect to the work network, I can view a couple of other peoples Shared Folders, but I cant get online, or view all the other computers that I could see with my old [censored] Dell.

Any ideas?

If you are using WEP with AC, use the full HEX code instead of the ASCII code.

If you only use a few profiles, I agree with others that using Windows zero utility is easier. I have close to 30 LAN/WLAN profiles and AC is the only way to go.

Haha, sorry my friend, that is WAY over my head. Can you define your terms?

What is WEP, What is AC and what are you referring to when you talk about using HEX or ASCII code?

Sorry to be dumb!
