Anybody got the Recovery Disks for X40 ??

#1 Post by Jason404 » Fri Jun 13, 2008 9:33 pm

Has anybody got the Recovery Disk set for the X40? My father borrowed mine for a business trip to China, and now it has loads of Chinese crap all over the place. I cannot even understand the dialogue boxes to close the windows.

If anybody could...
  • 1. Rip the CDs to image files
    2. Upload them to my FTP server overnight
...I would be incredibly grateful.

I have the X31 discs on my server if anybody wants them.

Cheers

I'm also looking for the recovery CDs for the X40 -- I also have a web site to upload them to. I know I need to buy a set but need the upload right away. Please PM me. Thanks.

I don't know if you have perhaps already solved this problem, but I just wanted to share that today a colleague of mine - who had just gotten a new (used) X40 - borrowed my T42 R&R CD's and used them to restore Win XP on the X40 (actually, I went home before the installation had completed, but all seemed OK). Because of this, you may most likely use a set of T42 R&R CD's for your X40.

See the thread Could anyone send me the Lenovo/IBM X32 installation disks? and in particular the following inspired us to try the trick mentioned:
In the thread Just got myself an X31, and used the R40's HPA image on it., in the post of Wed Jun 11, 2008 3:50 pm, hadoken wrote:I have successfully slapped in T42 recovery discs in both an X31 and an X40 and they worked "enough" such that once I loaded the right Ethernet drivers, I could use Lenovo's System Update to D/L all the right drivers in 1 swoop. I am getting the feeling that IBM recovery disks of the same "vintage" are fungible to many machines.
If any of you have put your X40 R&R CD's on a ftp-site, I'd be interested in knowing - feel free to PM me! :-)

Ah yes, the T42 has a very similar chipset to the X40 (i855GM vs. i855PM, I think), so the chipset drivers may even be the same. If they do require different drivers, I suppose that if you install them as soon as possible, the laptop will still perform optimally.

I'll keep that in mind if I continue to get no response for this call for the X40 discs, which I would prefer to get.

I'll get in touch if somebody is kind enough to upload them to my server.
