R51 anyone?
R51 anyone?
It seems that there are a big majority of ovners of a thinkpad t4x in this forum. Are there anyone with a thinkpad r5x here. I have a r51 and I am very happy with it. I got to compare it with a similar t42 15'' and the difference in size and thickness didnt seem to be that big.

Hi!
I am using a R51 as well. Yea the specs are basically the same as the T series just that mine is seriously thick compared to T's and X's. I think if I used it to whack someone's head, that person could be dead right at the spot.
Anyway, I love my R51. Wouldn't use it to whack ppl's head although there is the Active Protection System to prevent shock to my HDD.
Cheers!

Peace out, dude.
I have neither one, t or r, as I was hoping the t series would go down in price a bit after the 1st of the year. I did look at the R and its a viable option, but I too noticed that there are alot of T users here. So it got me wondering about the quality of the R series.
From what i can tell the difference between the two is that the T is lighter, and from pictures it kinda looks like the LCD hinges are different on each, Magniseum (sp) case on the T other than that I dont know.
Maybe Bill Morrow could enlighten us a little on the difference in the two.
Im also wondering if the 2 usb ports are spaced far enough apart so that one could plug in one of those fancy microdrives and still have enough room to plug something else into the other usb port. (whether its the R or T series)

oh yes those USB ports
they are so near to one another I could not use a mouse with a pen drive together. Anyway, T's are obviously so much better compared to R's. R's are probably meant to be the students' range notebooks.
But I love IBM Thinkpads. Whatever the series are, be it T's, X', R's, G's or A's...what you pay is what you get.
I'm in the hardcore poor category, so I got myself R51 and not T42.

I have an R51 and I am very happy with it. This is my first ThinkPad and my first laptop, and my next laptop is going to be a ThinkPad. I like all of the ThinkPad series and everything about them. I don't care about their physical features like how much they weigh, their thickness, or what they are made of because I know that they are going to last long. I also don't care what they are for.
I love my R51 and I also never leave home without it. I wouldn't give it away for anything.

ThinkPads: R51 (1836HAU), T41 (23737FU), 600 (264551U), T60 (2008VRQ), T500 (224255U)
I Love (all) ThinkPads...ThinkPad forever!

I purchased two R51s (1836BAU) in May 2004, one for me and one for my daughter (who can do no wrong). 40 gig HD/512M RAM. We are very happy with the R51s.
We had two almost identical I-Series 1400s. Both were on their last legs, daughter spilled wine on her keyboard.
I don't travel as much as I once did, but the weight, greater then the T series is not a big issue. One thing missing on the R51 that was on the 1400s was a "line-in" jack, which I use often. I purchased one "Mini Doc" for $50 from IBM. Got the "line-in", 4 USB ports and the other standard stuff, way below normal cost, but the story is to involved on why I got it for $50.
Wireless B/G works fine, great range with the built in atenna. No problems, so far, very pleased.
