I'm attempting to install a D-Link Airplus Extreme G DWL-G650 Adapter on a IBM Thinkpad 600E which is running Windows 98, and am experiencing some minor driver problems.
Upon installation, I'm getting the message: The NDIS.VXD.NTKERN.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver (Code 2), when I check the hardware properties through the system device menu.
I'm wondering whether a newer driver is available. Guess D-Link must offer their drivers off their website.
I'm also a little unclear on where you input the WEP code and encryption key under Windows 98. I've set up a wireless network using Windows XP, but I'm not sure where that wireless network trail is located under Windows 98.
Installing D-Link DWL-G650 Adapter / ThinkPad 600E
Okay, no reply from the board members, but although I feel funny - I'm not too proud not to post up an answer to my own question.
First, it appears as though the newest drivers are located and available from D-Link at http://support.dlink.com/downloads/
The card installation was actually pretty straight-forward after downloading the revised driver. Other than entering the WEP and sensing the network - the rest of the installation went fine.

Hey, talking to yourself isn't all that bad... thousands of people do that everyday on the streets of San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York!
As you have found, some manufacturers still maintain driver support for "obsolete" hardware and older operating systems such as Windows 9x, although that is probably getting rarer by the day. When I have installed a wireless card under Win98, it generally comes with a configuration or management-type utility where you can enter the SSID and encryption details. Windows 98 does not provide that built-in WiFi support. Also, for some of these relics, they may not be able to use any of the higher level encryption standards (WPA and beyond).
