Battery oddity

#1 Post by charles.atcher » Sun Jun 15, 2008 1:12 am

So I've recently purchased an X30. Didn't come with a battery, so I bought an NOS (new old stock for those who wonder) genuine IBM battery.

Stuffed it into the laptop and charged it completely before using it. Once it was charged I pulled the charger off, while running. It proceeded to run for a couple of minutes, then immediately shut off.

In order to get it to boot again I had to unplug the battery, push the power button a few times, then plug the charger back in.

On occasion I can get it to run for a few minutes, and NHC says the battery has plenty of capacity. Around 4300 if I can recall.

Doesn't matter if the battery is in the laptop itself or in the media slice.

I'm going to assume main board, but I'd love to hear otherwise! It's an otherwise lovely X30, with a 7200 Segate and built in WiFi/Bluetooth.

The fact that the battery charges means that the charging circuitry in the laptop is working. NOS batteries can go bad just sitting on the shelf, so I'd still suspect that the battery is bad. Can you return it?
