much unlamented topic... Recovery CD for A31p?

#1 Post by malachont » Fri Dec 17, 2004 2:53 am

windows 2000...
Does anyone have this rarity, and can post it somewhere so I can download? I can provide an IBM serial number to verify windows license etc.
I tried using the built in partition restore (F11) but I didn't have that option in boot... I dont have a floppy drive so I can't use the IBM utility designed to fix this.

then I tried deleting all partitions and unhiding the recovery partition,
and it did boot into the restore program but then of course reported
"error in partition table" which it now says straight after booting.

so I guess I now need the CD....
I tried to order it from IBM some months after I bought the machine, but they refused to do it unless I had a breakdown. Now probably they'd make a fuss over me having a different address.

thanks

i need...

#5 Post by malachont » Mon Dec 20, 2004 9:01 am

the win2k recovery Cd....
would REALLY appreciate it if someone has an ISO image that I could upload to a temporary FTP server I can create...

Because I urgently need it, (I'm in Israel)
I contacted IBM in israel and they said they don't have this CD, but I can bring the machine in and they will manually install an image...
I contacted IBM in UK (I just came from there) and they are still processing my request.

My windows 2k went belly up, and the built in F11 recovery doesn't work (probably 'cause I added a partition) I don't have a floppy to use the IBM F11 repair diskette. It says "incorrect partition tables" on boot...

Thanks for your help.

You have not the 25 USD to buy an USB floppy drive? You could create a bootable CD with IBM´s repair diskette.

I could send you the ISO image of the repair diskette (1.7 MB)

really?

I would gladly buy the USB drive If I thought that would solve it.
however, I think the image on the hard drive has been destroyed
(to restore the F11 functionality, I hastily tried, as suggested in one of the messages here, to delete all partitions except the IBM rescue partition, unhide it and then boot from it. Then it did dispaly the system restore screen but crashed in the middle and now I have a system probably with no working partitions, doesn't boot at all )

can the diskette you mention create the recovery CD from scratch or does it depend on a working rescue partition?
where would it take all the drivers/win2k files from?

Perhaps If I use some DOS Partition manager to unhide the main partition the rescue partition would still work...

thanks for your help

No, R&R is only for imaging the os.

If the service partition is still intact the IBM repair diskette could help, I have this software of this floppy on a bootable CD (1.7 MB), send me you email address, it is worth trying.

Otherwise, pm Bill for a set of recovery CDs.

BTW, the A31P does NOT have a hidden partition like the t40/41 models.

Good luck!

I didnt know that. The F11 service partition I had certainly looked hidden to me.

but my Pc has no visible partitions now...
and no floppy drive. (I have to buy it). Is there any way to do it without a floppy drive? (I'm just calling IBM to try to get the recovery CD)

thanks

Could you read please my post above? I told you that I have the ISO-image of the floppy repair disk, i.e. you just would need to double-click this file to create a bootable CD. Give me you email address or pm me.
