New T61 14" LCD has bluish tint!!??

#1 Post by mtbiac » Mon Jun 16, 2008 3:47 pm

so my brand new T61 with 14.1" widescreen and integrated graphics just arrived today. compared to my older T61 14.1" widescreen w/NVS 140m, the new WXGA+ (both were WXGA+) has a bluish hue to it. Even when booting, the white lettering seems to hvae this off-white-bluish hue to it. Is this normal maybe for the first few days of usage or is something wrong? Any suggestions would be great.

anybody else had this problem? other than that I LOVE the new machine. The integrated vs. discrete graphics have improved battery life by more than an hour!! :)

I wonder if your older machine is at fault. I compared my R50p to my T61p when the T61p was new last September and found the R50p somewhat "warm--pink" and the T61p somewhat "cool--blue" but I thought it was aging of the tubes in the R50p.

Of course the R50p has a 1600 x 1200 IPS screen, so I like the R50p screen better overall, but I think the pink/blue might be old/new.

Just a thought.

I think you have the Samsung display. I had a blueish screen on my first T40p, and saw exactly the same screen on teh T60p in the Thinkpad center. You can set the color a little bit in the ATI menu.
Don't worry, after some time the screen will turn to bright white.
Much better than cheap screen that are neutral white now and turn yellowish after 1 year.

Yep, the blue tint issue is well known amongst owners of recent T61 models. It usually comes with Samsung panels; I've got one too. Unless you're doing some serious graphics work where accurate color reproduction is key, it's probably nothing to worry about.

How do you like the brightness of the LCD? Do you consider it sufficient?
