Thinkpad X31 partout

#1 Post by smugiri » Tue Jun 17, 2008 3:28 pm

I have a Thinkpad X31 that just started giving me issues with intermittent failure after I hacked the BIOS to install a non-whitelisted 802.11a/b/g card. While the machine still boots and runs fine, 1 in every 5 times I try to boot, it fails with 4 cycles of 4 beeps. IBM documentation indicates that this is a system security chip error which is why I suspect that it is related to the BIOS hack. For this reason alone, I want to sell the machine for parts since I know that everything but the system board works perfectly. Images of the machine can be found here

As you may well know, I like to run fun sales so I want to do that again here. What I want to do is run a sale with a difference. I have created a document with various part combinations that you can buy. You can find the document here.

The rules for playing this game are simple.

1. Bidding: You buy a lot by bidding on it. You have make an offer on this thread to buy an entire lot. You cannot ask for parts within a lot.

Best offer for any and all lots at midnight forum time tomorrow secures them. This means that the post in this thread that will have the highest amount for any lot with a time earlier than 12:00am June 19th 2008 will take the complete lot.

2. Shipping: Shipping for any lot is $7 to the US/Canada and actual amount to anywhere else in the world. This means that the actual cost for any item will be your bid + $7 for shipping to the US/Canada and actual shipping anywhere else in the world.

3. Payment: You have to pay to be able with Paypal or US/Canadian dollar denominated money order. A paypal payment (not bid but actual payment) of $44.5 + $7 for shipping to the US/Canada or actual shipping to anywhere else secures any lot.

Thats it.

One way in which we might make this more fun is for me to allow combining of offers to buy a lot - I can sell a lot to multiple recipients providing they
- pay $7 for each US/Canadian address to which I have to ship an item
- pay in a single payment.

Can anyone think of anything else we can do to make this interesting?

Hmm... don't know if the concept of bidding for stuff is strictly allowable (or conversely, forbidden) here in the Marketplace. <Ray will go off and investigate> In any event, if this thread is allowed to remain, then put me down for $45 for Lot #1.

Opps.

I did not realize that there may be a problem with that. I apologize if I am stepping on any toes.

If it is not allowed then consider this posting an outright sale of any lot at $45.

If you want lot 1 (or any lot) at $45, all you have to do is pay for the item before someone else does. Be sure to include a note in the payment letting me know what the lot number you are interested in is as well as a shipping address. You would also need to post on this thread so that other forum users know that a lot is gone. If you are not in the US/Canada, you need to wait for me to give you a shipping quote. I will not overbill on shipping, you will pay the actual shipping amount.

My Paypal address is

I am a straight shooter. You can check out my feedback on this forum where I have bought and sold many Thinkpads and accessories as well as on eBay where I have an extensive history of Thinkpad purchases (look under feedback left for others where I always give a short description of the item).

Well, after a considerable amount of time searching the archives I can't seem to find a thread that I thought I once saw offering an item for sale in the Marketplace as an auction. It seemed to me that the thread was pulled (or maybe edited) as the Marketplace is meant to be a buying / selling / trading forum and not a cheap :!: imitation of eBay.

edit: Wouldn't you know it that as soon as I posted the above, I found the thread I've been looking for:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 715#320715

While that thread was not really setup as an auction per se, the note from the moderator (wasn't me) seems to explain it all.

the rules are silent on this sort of "sale", so let it proceed..
at least until someone tries to abuse this ruling at which time auctions might be prohibited..

Okay, with that "official blessing", let it be known that I have a $45 bid on lot #1 (LCD lid assembly).

Lot 1 is sold.

Make bids people. This might be your only chance to get a lot for next to nothing.

Do I interpret this right, that the $44.50 is your Buy-It-Now price plus shipping, requiring immediate payment?
In other words, if I would pay you $51.50 via PayPal right now for lot #1, I would pip Ray?

(the above is only hypothetical, don't worry, Ray  )

Yep, you would have.

Unfortunately, Ray already paid.

The rule is simple, if you do not want to haggle, send $44.5 for any lot to me via Paypal and it is yours.
