X61 BIOS downgrade (2.12)

#1 Post by n38778 » Wed Jun 18, 2008 4:03 am

Hi there,

I have an X61 7675-K2U factory shipped with BIOS 2.12 (7NETB2WW). I would like to downgrade it back to 2.07 but both winuptp and the bootable CD says that "BIOS image file does not match this system.".

Is there a way to force the downgrade?

I was even looking for 2.12 on Lenovo website, but I couldn't find it at all.

Any suggestions, please?

Thanks,

Karoly

OK you got me, why are you trying to downgrade?

My new X61 is at 2.12 and it runs like a champ.

I want to use third party WWAN card and the modded BIOS is 2.07. It won't let me downgrade, even with original BIOS (2.07 and previous versions as well).

OK I get it! I did a bit of research and I didn't come up with an answer for you :(. Maybe someone else knows how?

Perhaps you could push on the other front - get a modded 2.12?

I was thinking about that, and I googled around together with examining thoroughly Lenovo website, but 2.12 BIOS is not available for download.... If someone has it, it may help as well.

Never seen 2.12 on Lenovo's site - and I check often. I did read somewhere that some custom built machines come with a "unique" BIOS which isn't available for general (web) download. That was the case with my T61 - it had a BIOS v.2.11 which wasn't to be found anywhere on any website.

I do have BIOS v.2.13 for the X61 from Lenovo's site but it was removed for some reason. All that's left now is v.2.07 (which I'm running right now - upgraded from the stock 1.11 that came with the machine) :?

The reason that you cannot downgrade may be due to slight differences in the Embedded Controller version. Lenovo states quite clearly that if there are any change in the embedded controller it then becomes impossible to downgrade to a lower version BIOS altogether.

EDIT:
Just checked Lenovo's site and all sorts of BIOS versions are back up on there .... weird

Version 7NETB4WW (2.14)

* (New) Security function was enhanced.
* (New) Firmware update of Intel AMT ME.
* (Fix) Data transmission speed of CardBus and 1394 device gets slow.

Version 7NETB3WW (2.13)

* (Fix) System hangs while formatting CardBus ATA HDD drive under Windows Vista 64-bit SP1.

Version 7NETB1WW (2.11)

* (Fix) WOL (Wake on LAN) may fail. (BIOS)
* (Fix) Boot error occurs at Intel ICH8M SATA initialization. (BIOS)

Version 7NETA8WW (2.08 )

* (New) Intel Memory Reference Code update. (BIOS)
* (Fix) POST 2100 for Hard Disk Initialization error may be displayed at reboot after exiting from BIOS Setup Utility. (BIOS)

Version 7NETA7WW (2.07)

* (New) Support for the models with new microprocessors. (BIOS)
* (New) Microcode updates of the processors. (BIOS)

Version 7NETA6WW (2.06)

etc, etc, etc...

Just saw on the official X-Series forum that Lenovo posted X61 BIOS 2.14:

Thanks for all, I managed to use the third-party WWAN without "official" downgrade.
