R51 From 40GB to 80GB

#1 Post by hlynurBA » Fri Dec 17, 2004 12:24 pm

Just bought IBM R51 and want to get my self a new 80GB hard disk. The 40GB disk in my R51 is split into two partitions, one about 5GB for the factory restore and the big one for the operating system. The question is can I ghost both partitions to the new 80GB disk and keep all factory restore function?

I dont know, but if you dont get any replies, just ask the same question in the T-series section (you might want to say that you have a t40 or something). I believe the solution is the same wheter you have a r51 or a t4x. There are more people searching the T-series forum.

I was hoping to upgrade mine to at least a 60GB. Unfortunately, IBM's HDs are extremely costly with their APS. Is it possible for me to get a normal notebook 60GB HD out there and attach it into the APS tray? :P
Peace out, dude.

Several possibilities:

1. Call IBM to get the recovery CDs (easiest way)
2. Install IBM rescue and recovery

Burn the image to DVD or CDs
3. Use a clone software like apricorn ez-gig which comes with IBM´s second hdd adapter.
