Using recovery disks from one model in another

#1 Post by seminumerical » Wed Jun 18, 2008 10:32 am

I'm thinking of buying a secondhand T or R model, and would prefer to wipe the existing harddrive completely before I use it (basic paranoia). Chances are that whatever I buy won't have recovery disks, but I do have them for my current machine, which is an X41 tablet. Does anyone have experience using recovery disks across models, or are there any reasons using the disks I have might not work?

I apologize if the question has been posted before - I couldn't find it.

You can create Product Recovery disks yourself if the hidden partion partition is kept intact on your future thinkpad:

How to create recovery media using ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery. (for Windows Vista but the procedure is somewhat same in Windows XP)

X41 tablet comes with Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 that is specifically designed for tablets, no other thinkpad comes with this edition except tablets, legally you must use the same version as the oem sticker on the bottom of the thinkpad read, the answer to your question is affirmative however.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
