240 maximum memory

Hi,

I am using a 240 (NOT 240x) with chipset i440BX, and 320MB of memory.
Tried with an 512MB stick instead of the 256 but only 256MB have been shown in BIOS!!!! so still 320MB in total.

Has anybody managed to have more than 256 usable? I got the impression the chipset was able to handle up to 1GB.

Any comments will be much appreciated

Your experience mirrors mine. I also tried a 512/133 in my TP240, and it only showed 256 being recognized. (320 total).

320mb is the max for a 240 (64mb + 256mb) and 256 is the max for the 240X.
The 240x achieves its maxium using the 64mb on board and a 192Mmb chip, which very hard, if not impossible to find. Or cutting one of the onboard chips to disable it and a low density 256mb in the slot.
I tried the cutting method unsuccessfully on a Celeron 240X and don't want to try again on my PIII version.
