Is this a replaceable part of the T43 ?

I have a T43, and the plastic piece at the back of the laptop is cracked:

No part is missing, its just that it is cracked. The laptop is under warranty. Is that part easily replaceable by lenovo ? Its a minor issue, so if the replacement is a big job, I wont bother.

It look like the base is cracked.

Unless you have the extra ThinkPad Protection Plan along with your warranty, IBM probably won't replace it. However, you never know unless you call :)

Replacement is time consuming, since the entire machine needs to be dissasembled and reassembled. Perhaps 90 minutes if you're experienced and organized.

The part itself, a base from any similar sized LCD T4x, only costs about $25 on eBay.

Krazy Glue is quicker.

Great, thanks.

It says this:
Base cover assembly
2669, 15in

* 2669-CTO, 83x, 84x, C3x, C4x, C9x, CAx, CNx, CSx, H2x, K6x, K7x except xxV

Worldwide 26R8417 N

* 2669-83x, 84x, C3x, C4x, C9x, CAx, CNx, CSx, H2x except xxV, K6x, K7x except xxV

Taiwan 26R9102 N
Base cover assembly
2669, 15in M24

* CTO, C4x, CAx, CPx, CTx, H2x except for xxV, Q1x, except xxV

Worldwide 26R9093 N

* 2669-C4x, CAx, CPx, CTx, H2x except for xxV, Q1x, except xxV

Taiwan 26R9104 N
What dos the "M24" Mean ? Like 2669, 15in M24 ? And there are two FRUs based on Taiwan or Worldwide, which one should I choose ?
The machine type is 2669-Q1U

The only time I've seen M24 was when it referred to machines with the long fan. I'd guess that you would want the worldwide version and that worldwide vs. Taiwan indicates where the part would be shipping to.

If the cracks are very hairline ones I would not bother replacing the case. There is danger you short out a compnent and your motherboard is fried. Only do it if you are very experienced in disassembly and reassembly of laptops.

This involves a complete strip down and removal of the system board. Something I feel I could do with my eyes closed at the moment having torn down and rebuilt a T42p last weekend ;)

The directions are in the Hardware Maint Manual - but the most important thing is to take static precautions because you are handled the mobo, and to keep track of the screws (I keep them with each part that is removed in a sequential row - which makes reassembly easy too.)

You'll also have a chance to remove all the dust and crud that builds up on the inside of a laptop. As underclocker said 90 minutes should be ample for the job.
