International warranty on new T61 & other matters

Seems we can't get the T61 in SXGA+ 1400x1050 14" anymore and as it is unlikely it will be available with the T400 and I don't think I can wait for a September release or whenever, I have looked around and have located such a T61 which I am about to purchase from the US. It is a new 8892-02U with a T7500 2.2GHz CPU (and 100GB 7200rpm HDD too ).

I have 2 questions for which I would be grateful to get members' help:

1. the machine comes with 3 year-Lenovo warranty (which I have checked on Lenovo's website), but it doesn't say whether it is IWS - international warranty?

2. does/did the T61 ever come with Penryn 45nm CPUs and 14" SXGA+? Is there a marked difference between the older T7500 and T8xxx/9xxx processors in terms of battery life and outright CPU power?

Anyone has answers to my dilemma? Thx guys!

1. Thx. I saw the list of asian countries too and I was totally confused. Does that mean I will not be getting any service elsewhere? My current T43 was purchased in Singapore 2 yrs ago and I still have 1 year international warranty left and they recently changed my noisy CPU fan in Mauritius under that warranty.

2. Sorry but what is ltwbook?

Alternative T61's I have seen are supposedly factory-sealed thinkpads but which includes an element of non-lenovo warranty by Mack after the first year. Anybody knows about Mack International Warranty on notebooks? Is that safe or is it a dodgey job?

Stay away from Mack warranties, they are worthless.

If you use the "search" function on this forum you'll see what (mostly disastrous) experiences people have reported. And not too many happy customers on this forum from that seller either...

For what you'd pay for a refurbished unit there, you can get a new one if you invest some time into researching the issue.

Where would you need the IWS to apply for your new machine?

There would be one more country in addition to the list of Asian countries, that country will be where the machine is destined to be sold (by lenovo), IWS tool doesn't always show this thing.

Also, there will be no warranty outside the countries not covered by IWS however at times lenovo adds coverage for other countries as the number of sold machines grows in other regions of the world, my suggestion is don't buy your machine thinking your required countries will be added in the IWS' list because it may or may not happen; choose the one from the start that meets your warranty requirements.

The IWS issue is exactly the reason why I purchased a R61 instead of a T61 in the US in order to be eligible for warranty in Europe. However, I think this situation is not really satisfying. Just my opinion...
