Thinkpad R32 2658-BQU lid close switch

#1 Post by peterchan_cal » Sun Jun 22, 2008 4:06 pm

I have an older R32 which is working properly except the screen is very dimm, close to black. I can see faint images on the screen in very dark room. I suspect it is either the back light or the inverter since I was able to use the computer with an external monitor. Somewhere I read in this forum that the lid close switch could be jammed which caused the back light to go out. And I can fix the problem by cleaning, freeing the switch. I cannot locate the switch itself, can anybody show me where it is? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

Although I doubt that the lid switch is the problem here, look between the upper row of buttons and bottom of the LCD on the chassis side, you'll see a tiny (1.5 mm at most) circle. That's it.

Good luck and let us know.

Thanks, I found it! Anywhere the more I look at it the more I think it is the inverter itself. Have to do some hunting on the eBay.
