t30 post and works but no power lights what to do?

#1 Post by deedoodee » Mon Jun 23, 2008 7:55 pm

t30 with lights and fan no boot. stipped down and removed the systemboard the inducers were lose i sweat the joints on the inducer re assembled enough to test boot.
Machine booted with lights and worked fine. re assembled completely and now machine works fine but no lights.

i stripped it down again and cleaned all contacts reassembled.
Same oh, works fine passes boot and no lights.
I thought it might be a bad lcd cableas the led lights are on that part so i replaced with an ibm NOS original.
Same problem.

has any one had this problem and is there a solution?

ps. longtime lurker here

i think it is one of the systemboards electronic parts that is wrong iam not sure what one.
there is no schematics for this i believe so i am looking in the dark.

Is there no electronics repair tech here? I could anyone give a hint?

I would say that if you have changed the LCD ribbon cable with the LED status lights attached and they still do not work, then your problem is indeed with the motherboard. As you said, no known schematics are publicly available so it would be a process of closely looking on the board for any loose or missing parts. In other words, a needle-in-a-haystack search :) . The only logical thing that I could think of is that a fuse has blown. Those parts are typically indicated on the motherboard as starting with the letter "F" and followed by a number. You could test them with an ohmmeter and see if they still read 0 ohms. However, even if you do find one that is bad, the problem is figuring out exactly what it is (current rating, fast vs. slow blow, etc.). In that case, the best thing to do is locate an identical motherboard and remove the same component. And of course, all of this assumes that you can safely remove and replace a very tiny surface mounted part without causing any damage to the motherboard.

If the only issue is that the LED status lights are not working and the T30 is otherwise functioning properly, then you should be able to live with the problem. The only loss is that you can't tell if the disk drive is being accessed and whether or not the caps lock, num lock or scroll lock keys have been activated.

Don't forget that you can't tell if it is in hibernation or sleep mode...

I don't have a T30 infront of me, but I wonder is you used the wrong size screw and screwed it into place and damaged something from the underside.
