Windows Live Messenger will not install

Just got my new ThinkPad T61 today, and so far very pleased. My only problem is that whenever I try to install Windows Live Messenger, it fails. It gets to about 10%, stops and then tells me that it cannot be installed.

I have no idea why this is happening. And I really need it, as well, to stay in touch with friends and whatnot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I deleted the old messenger manually from my c drive, and turned off my Avira antivirus gaurd, still nothing...

i solved this problem by installing an older copy of msn messenger that does not need to connect to download while installing. after that, download the installer for the latest version from the net and upgrade the older version.

Could you possibly give me exact links? *not very smart* I wanna make sure I'm dling the correct older version + the right update.

Edit: Nevermind. Got it fixed.
