T42 Display Problem

#1 Post by jaggujan17 » Tue Jun 24, 2008 11:34 am

I am having problem with my thinkpad T42 lately. :(
All of a sudden display goes balnk but system is still running.
only thing i can do is power it off. after power if i start imediately then it will not start so i have to put it side for few minutes(15 - 20 minutes) and then if i try to start it will start fine.

Is anyone out there having this kind of problem? :?:

Welcome to the forum!

If you have access to an external monitor, try hook it up to the T42, and see if the external image exhibit the same behaviour?

T42's are known to suffer from "the loose GPU problem", which has been extensively discussed on this forum - see e.g. the sticky here t42 shuts down when i move it. Your T42 may (potentially) also have been stuck by this...

However, before "concluding" anything (it's a bit early, isn't it?!), I also suggest you have a look in the thread T42p won't come out of standby or won't boot after shutdown and see the post of Sun Feb 10, 2008 6:16 am. I suggest you try the two first tips. Then, report back here - and I'm sure there will be help and further suggestions.

You might have a loose connector or invertor card. Power the unit and give it a couple slaps (without breaking your hand) and see if the screen flicker and turns off. If that happens you'll have to re-sit the LCD signal and/or power connector/cable...

Good luck,
