Holy Toledo, Lenovo replaced IPS UXGA with non-IPS UXGA !!
My IPS had a bright non-uniform stripe across it, so IBM technician came to replace it (he confirmed that it looked like a mnaufacturing defect). But he put in a non-IPS UXGA !!! I showed him a Flexview UXGA, and the difference was glaringly apparent. Think 14.1" SXGA+ screens

He said he was just installing what IBM had shipped out to him.basketb wrote:scandalous!
What was his justification?
He told me to call IBM back and get the correct screen.
I'm still in shock

So have you called IBM to get the screen situation corrected? I would not settle for the wrong screen.
Having done third party warranty work I can confirm that you get paid to install whatever parts that the company sends. It is up to the customer to complain if the wrong parts are sent. I would complain now.

Not for nothing, but where have they come up with non-IPS UXGA LCD? From an A22p?????

Call IBM and get it right immediately ... I wonder where they sourced the non-IPS UXGA from!

Part numbers
@wearetheborg
Do you have the part numbers of the original and the new
LCD panel?
I'm asking because I have one T42p UXGA in warranty repair since
beginning of May and Lenovo is not providing any UXGA LCD for
replacement. I want to be prepared if they give it a try for a non flexview replacement.

It said "used serviceable part" on the LCD. I can say that it did not come from HP NC8000/NW8000 laptops. Those UXGA screens are much better than this one. This one is probably the worst LCD I have seen.gator wrote:Call IBM and get it right immediately ... I wonder where they sourced the non-IPS UXGA from!

I mean, Do you now what model and manufacturer the new non-Flexview LCD is?
Is there any thing specified on the form the technician has left to document his work,
about what exactly he installed in your Thinkpad?
Background, f.e.
in the German Thinkpad forum someone claimed, that the new UXGA 15.0inch
LCDs offered on eBay for the T4x-series would be non-Flexview Samsung. ???

That's a pitty. Please make some photos of the backside of the spourious
replacement LCD panel, next time the LCD assembly will be opened.
Looking at your link in your sig to an "extra year of warranty for free"
and seeing what the IBM/Lenovo Warranty Service is doing to you and me,
I'm asking myself, what's this Lenovo warranty worth??
NOTHING. Just Money for hassels!

I just called them, and CSR said that her system said that the correct part number was shipped out (she could not see flexview or non-flexview). She double checked.
This is bad, really bad. This means that flexview LCDs are essentially not covered under existing warranties anymore.
I'll try to contact Mark A. Hopkins on Lenovo forums next.

It's obvious from your photo that the correct part was not sent and installed. I would very simply tell them you are not satisfied and you hope they get it right the second time.
Very basically the original problem has not been fixed. I would keep calling until you speak to the voice of reason.

I'd recommend you open another thread in the official lenovo forum,
and to write letters to consumer protection organisations and news papers...
The more publicity and the more transparence, the better.
IMHO if Lenovo was not planning properly for their warranty stocks
it is Lenovo's liability and they should IMHO actively offer
individual compensation for each system still under warranty,
if they are not able to provide the service, we paid for.
After all IBM/Lenovo took good money for the warranty.
Besides there are new Flexview LCD offered on eBay, so they
are still around. Even IBM Germany Spare Parts site is listing them
for sale - at a premium price though.

I had the same thing happen yesterday with my brother's T42p. After talking to an IBM supervisor, he said that they'll order the original FRU and ship it to me right away.
I wonder if the parts suppliers simply don't know the difference between IPS and non-IPS and assumed these panels are the same thing. Unless they're just plain crooked, but I have a hard time believing that.

Do you have more detailed information about the wrong LCD panel,
which was fitted in your brother's T42?
e.g. a part number or maybe even photos of the backside of the LCD panel?
