Booting from External Disk Drives

#1 Post by gholdsworth » Wed Jun 02, 2004 3:30 pm

Hi,

I have an A30P and would like to know if booting from an external USB 1.1 or 2.0, or firewire drive is possible. I'm using W2K SP4.

Does anyone have knowledge of or experience doing this? If you've accomplished this, what hard drive, enclosure ( IBM, LaCie, etc.) and interface (USB 1.1/2.0, firewire) did you use?

I'm exploring this as an option to using a 2nd HDD adapter and the ultrabay.

Thanks in advance,

You can boot from USB, just make sure you change the boot sequence in the BIOS. Also, it's good to upgrade the BIOS before that, since it fixes many bugs.

Howdy,
How about an A21? Can it boot from an external USB drive? I am seeing A21 and T21 Thinkpads cheap enough that I might be able to get one. I have not seen a good enough picture to tell the difference between an A21 and a T21, so I don't know which I'd get, but if one could boot from USB, that would be a big bonus for me.
Thanks,

I doubt that an A21 will boot USB as my A22m does not.
