Wireless Issue

#1 Post by askjim » Wed Jun 25, 2008 2:37 pm

Hi,

I have bought a new thinkpad r61li. Quite happy with it apart from connecting to the internet via wireless seems so slow. Connecting via network cable is fast.

My old thinkpad when connected to the internet via wirless was really fast.

Can anyone help?

James

Have you tried to update your driver? You could also try to change driver settings in device manager, or check your TCP/IP settings, more info here and free tool here. Read all info before tweaking anything, and don't do it if you're not sure what you're doing... I believe this doesn't apply to Vista, because it optimise settings automatically (or it should).... Google it for details if running Vista....

tried 3 drivers, two from intel and from microsoft to no avail.

Really puzzled. Thinking about trying a different router?

Glad to hear that, I was thinking about router problem but you wrote that your previous TP worked fine, strange, but nevermind if you solved that problem....

I'm assuming that you are running Vista on the R61, yes? I had a similar problem on an R61 with my Netgear ME102 (802.11b) access point. No matter what I did, Vista would not connect to it, or if it did, would drop the connection within a minute. Switched over to a WRT54G and the wireless is rock-solid.
