2653-R9U and BMDC200b - no COM3 attachment (modem enabled)
Just installed this DC, connected antenna and modem connector. No problems UNTIL it won't allow COM3 for attachment. What's my advice?
Thanks!
Thanks!

COM3 may be used already by the some device you used in the past. If you must have COM3, attach the old device that used COM3; then delete the device driver.
Then try to assign COM3 again to your BT CDC.

Sorry - but this post was specific to the Agere 56k modem on the BMDC. It has always been on COM3 and when I checked the properties under device manager I saw Agere modem # 1 and Agere modem # 2. I then uninstalled these modems thinking that would free up COM3 and it somewhat has (indicating COM3 as an option in the modem # 1 advanced tab advanced port settings whereas before it had reflected COM3 (in use)). So I felt I was making progress.
But no. Trying a modem query I still get an indication that COM3 is in use by some application (?) and am stuck here. BT configuration is on hold until I get this figured out.
Thanks!

RESOLVED:
The Conexant modem had unsigned drivers that I had installed but because the IBM drivers for my previous Actiontec modem on the mini-PC card where installed, the automatic installation decided to assign those to the new modem. Had to manually chose the IBM Conexant drivers and afterward life was good.
What was throwing me off was that there was a cryptic message on retrying to install the IBM Conexant that I was unable to understand, something about not being able to find the device for the drivers.

BMDC200 uses Agere chipset but the BMDC200b uses Conexant. I had a hard time getting the driver working on my BMDC200b modem too.
Some software has a maximum Com port number they can use. This is a problem on my Windows installation since I have been using it a long time and there were a lot of USB devices I've used in the past.
So the latest Com port assigned in my machine is Com13.
