Wireless Question
Wireless Question
As stated in another thread, I upgraded to Vista Ultimate yesterday, but I have not gotten my wireless back up.
I have the 802.11b wireless PCI card installed and it seems to see it, but I don't have a Utility to configure it for my WAP. It appears that the old Cisco wireless 340 Utility will not work in Vista, or something else is wrong.
Does anyone have a roadmap on how I should proceed to verify the card is working correctly and then how I can get it configured to associate with my WAP.
TIA....Dan

Try using a generic wifi driver if Vista has that, or install the Cisco util in compatibility mode if Vista has that.
Why you would want to run such cripple-ware on your T30, with XP-Pro available, is a true mystery to me....
Get Netstumbler from http://www.netstumbler.com/ to see if that may help.

Good point on XP-Pro, which is what I was running. I am hoping that by adding more memory that it will run faster. I am trying to get as many miles out of the T30 as I can. I have had it since 2003.
I have replaced the display and the keyboard so far.
Vista seems to be running great, but it is a little slow.

You could always try and max out the RAM to 2GB, and put in a 7200rpm hard disk.
Your current HD is probably half full with just the OS.

Good point on Vista and the T30, but if you read either one of my last two post you will know why I needed to get the T30 re-built, and perhaps I did not quite think out the Vista thing to well, but will now adjust with getting more RAM and a fast HD.

Ok... Update
Could not connect to my wireless network although the internal PCI adapter was working correctly. It could not see the network which I know why as I do not broadcast my SSID. So, I started from ground zero.
Reset the WAP to broadcast the SSID with no security. I connected fine. So the next step is to re-enable WEB (rather do WPA, but I do not believe the wireless adapter in my T30 supports WPA, but I will investigate.
Standby for updates.

Ok, we can put this one to bed.
Re-enabled WEP with new key. Disabled broadcasting the SSID and laptop is now able to associate with the WAP.
Other wireless devices on the network have been reset as well.
All good-to-go.
We can retire this subject.
