Remember the active desktop gallery?
Back when our 365's & 760's were new, Microsoft introduced the active desktop for windows. It came with ie 4.0 for windows 95, and was a part of Windows 98.
It included the Channel Bar, a thing that displayed all your favorite links on the desktop. Other desktop gadgets could be downloaded from the Active Desktop Gallery. They included other internet related stuff (stock market, sports scores, news) and also accessories like a scheduler or calender, a java clock, etc.
The gallery is gone now, replaced by the Vista Gadget Gallery. Has it been preserved somewhere? Is it still buried somewhere on microsoft.com? Where can I get some of these accessories?
Most of the links are out of date now, but they are easily edited. I am especialy interested in the non-internet applications.

Good luck with that.
If memory serves that active desktop stuff did not do too well with consumers as most of them simply turned off active desktop.
Have you tried google.

Are you kidding? For TP users it was a must have if you wanted the ThinkPad world timezone map desktop. I miss the hell out of that. The Vista sidebar is no comparison.

Ok, so maybe I like unpopular stuff. I was a nerd before it was in style. My real computer is a Tandy Color Computer 3. The "CoCo" community is even smaller than Atari or ti. The only classic less popular than the CoCo is the Timex sinclair 2068. I wish I still had my TS 2068.
I like MS Bob, Tandy WinMate, and the idea of having all those cool gadgets like a Juke Box built right in to my Windows desktop.
Is there a forum somewhere out there for us weirdos?
Where do I get that world time zone map?

It's killing me that I can't use it in Vista. I love it.
