T42 how to make recovery disc image?

#1 Post by altious » Sat Jun 28, 2008 10:18 am

I have a T42 IBM
I want to make a recovery disc for my IBM so I can install other OS
One problem is when I try to make recovery disc I can only use the options burning them into CDs. I was wondering if I can make an image for it so I can burn into DVD with my desktop

because my T42 doesn't come with a DVD burner and I don't want to have 6-8 cd of recovery disc instead of just 1 DVD

If anyone know how I can make an image off the recovery so I can burn it with my desktop please tell me how

Thanks

When I press "Making Recovery Disc" my computer popup a new drive
called IBM_SERVICE. I copied all of them to my external HD
can I make a ISO with those files? or can I burn them to DVD and make them bootable

Thanks

If you want to create the official IBM Product Recovery disk set, you'll need to use your T42's own utility for creating the product recovery disk set, and write to your internal burner - or possibly to an external USB DVD burner if that will appear when you are doing the disk writing.

There are of course other software programmes that will "image" your current hard drive including the hidden service partition, so you can save this image and restore the contents of your hard drive at a later date, to exactly as it was before.

Two imaging programmes discussed in detail on this forum are Acronis True Image (very popular) and also Ghost. Simply do a search of these titles in the T4x forum.

BTW, I very much enjoyed the ferry trip from Medan to Georgetown. Do you travel over there often, as Georgetown had some real bargains on electronics.

Thanks for the info rbena

I will look it up in the forums

I used to travel there when I was young since it was so close
but now I don't have any chance anymore since I have been overseas for so long, currently in China which also have a lot of bargains on electronics here :D if you know your way around
