What's Wrong With This 1.8in IDE Harddrive?

#1 Post by kunfuchopsticks » Sun Jun 29, 2008 2:04 pm

I have read many topics about the HDD in X41. I understand it's IDE 1.8in 42,000rpm. And cost a fortune on ebay.

So why won't this http://www.consumerdepot.com/products.a ... rer=google work?

It has a ZIF connector, not the 44pin IDE, which the X40/41 needs.

rumours say there is a ZIF to IDE adapter though, check: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=57685
Mine: X40, 1.4LV, 8cell, 1GB RAM, 40GB,
Brothers:X21, 700Mhz, 320MB RAM, 120GB

a ZIF to IDE (PATA) converter won't do him any good..
there is no space in the X40 series thinkpad for it and a 1.8 inch HDD..

Just for a fun fact, ZIF connectors is whats found in Ipods. Maybe thats why they're cheaper than the other ones? Mass production?

It is special design that lenovo ships with some of its replacement units, that one fits.. I just replaced my hdd with Transcend 300x compact flash and it is a great improvement. My recommendation.
