DVD RW

#1 Post by chrisrusty99 » Sun Jun 29, 2008 11:42 pm

I just purchased a DVD-RW drive for my thinkpad t23. I put it in, and it does not recognize it. It has power (the drive opens) but it is not recognized in windows explorer even after rebooting. Does anyone know what my problem could be?

Thanks

I downloaded the ISO file and used selected "create bootable disk" in Nero and put the file on a cd rw. I put the cd in my computer and it appeared to be doing something, but when I take the cd out and boot up the system, it still is not recognizning the drive.

Who is the manufacturer and what is the model number of the drive? Even if it has the large black IBM label which covers the entire top surface of the drive, there should be a label somewhere on the bottom with this information.

Click on Start/Run, type in regedit and click on OK.
Back up your registry.

Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Look for these entries:
LowerFilters
LowerFilters.Bak
UpperFilters
UpperFilters.Bak.

Rightclick each of them (if present), select Delete and confirm with OK.

Exit regedit and reboot.

I didn't see these entries in the folder...

Go to Device Manager and remove any DVDs/CDs etc. that you find.
Click on the View button and select 'Show hidden devices'.
Remove any DVD/CDs that you find there as well.
Reboot. It should now find New Hardware.
