Bluetooth module vanished on X41 Tablet Vista Upgrade

#1 Post by alexandicity » Wed Jul 02, 2008 1:21 am

Hi all!

I just upgraded my X41 Tablet to Vista. It's running good enough now - the machine is just about powerful enough to cope. Most of the drivers from Lenovo worked a charm and I've got virtually everything operating fine.

One glaring exception is the Bliuetooth. I installed the latest drivers from Lenovo but whenever I click on any of the items in "Bluetooth Places" I get the error "no local bluetooth device was detected". This must refer the the X41's built-in module - it doesn't get as far as looking for other devices, is just fails immediately.

Looking at the Device Manager, I see the Bluetooth Enumerator but no Bluetooth Adaptor as I'd expect. It's as if it hadn't been installed. There is one "Unknown Device" in the list also, on the "Intel(R) 82801FBM LPC Interface Controller - 2641" - could this be an uninstalled Bluetooth module? I've not been able to get any drivers working with it.

One thing I read about is the fn+F5 enabling/disabling of the radios, I've not been able to get that working properly (using the Hotkey Drivers), but I was able to manually run the program that combo launches. On the black dialogue, there's the WiFi but no mention of Bluetooth anywhere.

Any ideas chaps? I've not used the BT module on this machine before, but I'd like to get it running now (for use with mouse and headset). However, it's almost as if it wasn't shipped with my model..!

What's the 7 character product number of your machine?

Hi ryengineer, not sure about the model number. I'll check when I get home.

This is the Trusted Platform Module (Security chip or TPM). Try this driver.

Cheers, K0lo. I thought I actually installed that driver already (as part of getting the fingerprint reader working), but perhaps not. I will re-attempt when I get back.

Right, so my product code is 1866WBA. What does that tell us?

It tells us you don't have a Bluetooth card installed in your machine.

Ach! That's not what I wanted to hear :( I thought Bluetooth was a standard component on all X41s.

Thanks though, ryengineer. I guess I'll have to go shout at the retailer who sold it to me. I wonder if I still have the advert around that said their X41s boasted Bluetooth. Although that was over a year ago, so it looks like a dongle and one less USB port is going to be the way to go...

There is a kit to add Bluetooth, check Lenovo site and eBay.
