2373-HVU

#1 Post by andyli » Sun Dec 19, 2004 6:01 pm

I'm looking for a laptop to replace a Sony that just died on me. With the holiday sales that IBM is currently having, I'm looking at the 2373-HVU. This will be my first IBM.

I am a student (but the special "school" pricing is higher than the sale price). Is there anything I should know about this unit? I would wait for the T43 that I read about, but I need a new system before the end of January.

Does anyone currently have this system? Any advice? I'll also be getting the Advanced Port Replicator with it, along with the 3 year TPP.

I've been reading about the type of keyboard that IBM currently uses. Is it replaceable? Will I most likely get the Thai or China one?

Thanks.

I have one of these and love it. It is fast enough for anything you want to do. (This weekend, I rendered a DIVX video on it; it was only slightly slower than the P4 3 Ghz desktop.) I got a good keyboard, but mine arrived from Bill when the T42s were introduced last spring. I like it so much that I've turned down newer/faster T42p units because the additional speed and fingerprint reader haven't seemed worth the time to move my files and settings and reinstall apps.

I went ahead and purchased the system.

The EDU representative was able to give me the best pricing by making 2 orders-one for the ThinkPad (unable to give me the sale under an EDU cart) and one for the MiniDock.

A new development he told me was as of today, TPP is not available to BILLING addresses in New York; but CAN BE added to purchases made in NY (as long as the billing on the TPP is not-NY). He was unable to tell me if they can add TPP to NYU sales (like in MA, TPP is not offered, except to Harvard students through the EDU channel.

Ship Date for the dock: 12/23/04
Ship Date for the TP: 01/07/05

How reliable are these dates?
