Current T61s have been factory crippled to intentionally prevent input recording from any sources other than the mono-mic.

What sort of uses are there for stereo recording that would not benefit from an external sound interface?

I use M-audio firewire based audio gear to connect to the T6x's firewire port for serious recordings... Never believe that onboard audio codec can deliver any quality recording...

The onboard audio worked pretty darn good for me on my T42p. Very disappointed with this crippled aspect of the T61p. Probably would not have purchased (depending on what other options were available at the time) had I known about this limitation in advance!
