XP SP3 slipstreamed install error

#1 Post by spt60 » Wed Jul 02, 2008 3:48 pm

Hey guys,

I have a Windows XP Pro original retail (no SP) cd and try to slipstream with SP3. Everything went fine, however when I use the slipstreamed CD to install as upgrade, I got a "File Copy Error" window. I tried this with another CD with XP Pro SP2 original on different machine, different CD burner, etc. and got the same error. And it's different missing files.

Any ideas?

You'll probably get a mod warning about the size of the picture

To make a slipstreamed XP with SP3, see this:

I don't think you realized the situation here. I'm a bit disappointed reading your reply :?

FYI, original XP + SP3 alone is not complete.
You need to slipstream SP2 into it first, then slipstream SP3 also (unless your base XP already includes SP2).

The missing file akuh8oi6.sys is not a valid/known filename.
My PC has been updated to SP3 and there is no such file.

I tried this with another CD with XP Pro SP2 original on different machine, different CD burner, etc. and got the same error.
And it's different missing files.
everytime I rerun

And I did not find any of these files that it said missing. I also have SP3 installed on my pc. I'm just trying to make a fresh slipstreamed XP SP3 installation cd and making sure it works.

Dont get me wrong, i do appreciate your help. 8)

What version of SP3 did you slipstream? The network version (~258-300MB) is the one that you want, as it contains the whole, not just the version-specific portions, of SP3.

Did you slipstream from SP0->SP3, or SP0->SP1/2->SP3?

Also, are you using nLite?

- I used the full SP3 package for Network and IT Professional.
- I used nLite 1.4.7
- I slipstreamed from XP Pro SP0 --> SP3, and XP Pro SP2 --> SP3, both cases same stupid error.
- I tried on my pc at home and at work. Same result.

BTW, I found out as searching online that the freshest SP3 slipstream would be from SP0 --> SP3, which will eliminate the extra space taken by sp2.cab 8)

Maybe the upgrade causes the problem.
Have you tried is as full?

When considering slipstreaming a Service pack, there's nothing better than just using the "integrate" command .... much better in my opinion than slipstreaming using third party software. Don't get me wrong, n-lite is a sweet little app, but I find that oftentimes I end up with lots of problems when I use it ...

I have no scientific proof that direct integration is better than using third-party software for integrating Service Packs, but I'm convinced it's better somehow to only use N-Lite to meet all your needs once all the SP's already integrated and ready to go ....

But RealBlackStuff was right. You need a minimum of SP2 to integrate SP3 properly. Again ... I wouldn't use n-lite to do it.... just integrate it the simple way.

Just copy all the contents of a disk (XP) to a directory on the computer then ... considering the following (using example type directories):

- if the SP2 resides in c:\SP2
- if the copy of XP resides in c:\XP

open a DOS window (cmd.exe) and type:

Code: Select all

c:\SP2\WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe /integrate:c:\XP
Hit ENTER and let XP be updated to SP2! Once it's finished, rename the "c:\XP" directory to reflect that it's now XP-SP2...

... then get the SP3 and do the same command (using SP3 full file, of course) on the new c:\XP-SP2 contents you just made

Then use n-lite to do whatever you want.... just point it to the direction of the directory where you have SP3 integrated into the whole things.

I was in the same predicament as you. I had the original XP with no service packs and I wanted to make myself an XP disk that would have SP3 already on there and some drivers already pre-insalled for my X61.

That's how I integrated the Service Packs.... If I used n-lite (latest version) I kept getting errors in the long run and found it rather useless for properly integrating service packs. It does a good job with hotfixes, but I always ended up with problems when using n-lite to slipstream Service Packs.

Anycase, hope that helps!
