Anybody else do something this stupid?

#1 Post by t-rex » Fri Jul 04, 2008 8:20 am

last night i was running late getting out of work. so i start grabbing things throwing them in a plastic bag: newspaper, bag of chips, jar of salsa and a usb2.0 ad a wireless card. when i get home the pcmia cards are at the bottom of the bag wet with the water that collects at the top of the salsa after it sits a while.
i have no idea how wet they got inside i have them on the roof of the house facing down so they can drain, they should stay very hot all day. if i do this two days in row i should be good? or not?
if i have to get new cards thats one thing but i do not want to trash a mother board.

If you can dry them out completely they should be ok. I usually take apart wet electronics so I can be sure that they're dry on the inside, but I don't how easy it will be to take apart and reassemble a pcmcia card.

With possible rain and morning dew, I would not put them on the roof.
Bring them inside, let them drip out as far as possible, then either stick them in the oven (low heat for an hour or so) or use a hair dryer from a foot or more distance.
Then let them sit for another day and try them. They should be good again, unless the salsa also left residue inside.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Are the American magpies just as the European magpies? Then i think you should check if your PC cards are still on the roof

Some PCMCIA cards are just assembled by two pieces of metal sheets snapped together by hooks along the sides. It should be possible to unhook them by a small screwdriver. Then you could dip them in isopropyl alcohol, let it evaporate, and then re-assemble. I'd do that instead since it's pretty hard to get all water out of it by evaporation, and this solution inside is rather unpure and likely conductive.

yes they are. we had very large black crows they would carry off anything shiny. west nile virus has pretty much wiped them out. can't remember the last time i saw one.

last night i took them off the roof before the sun went down i shot them with an infared them. 130* F
the usb card will be alright. compressed air goes right though it. i blew it out for 10 minutes. i did get the cover off the lan card and was looking at the back of the circuit board could not get the other side off. i'm thinking i'll let them bake for another 10hrs. and try them out.

Could you send me some of that west nile stuff? or do I have to order it from Egypt? Because of the kind of town I live in, gabage eaters (crows, possums, racoons, hippies) get *huge*. The crows haven't carried off anyones kids *yet*, but we're getting concerned.

Too bad the crows won't eat the hippies. That would solve the litter problem, but even crows won't eat something *that* rotten.

If hippies use ThinkPads, I'm going to get flamed for this... :?
