Thinkvantage Access Connections: gone.

#1 Post by andrea b. » Sat Jul 05, 2008 1:45 am

Oh, help.
Several things happened before I pushed the blue button to find: pretty much nothing available, except 'customize' and 'close'. Click 'Customize', and everything is gone: quick links, the whole thing.

In the first stage only Find Wireless Connections and a couple of other things were gone. Then - everything.

Background: I hadn't freshly booted the machine for months, and when I did, was horrified to find that the Welcome screen was on for over 60 seconds. (Shutting down also interminable, with two apps - AcLIconWnd and AcTrayWnd - needing to be manually closed on pop-up.

As I had only 30 days left of Symantec, I decided it was time to install Nod32 (Smart Security) - Symantec is easy to blame. Installed: no problem. Used Norton removal tool (and regedt32.exe to remove registry values still there).

I also defragged with Auslogics and used Registry Mechanic.

It's all a blur now. But one thing is clear: Thinkvantage is gone.

I'm still under warranty.

Advice?

Thanks so much in advance,

Andrea B.

Try uninstalling then reinstalling Rescue and Recovery.
Download Rescue and Recovery

Thanks so much for your swift reply. (In my bleary state while posting, I had typed 'Access Connections' - which is also geflooey - rather than 'Productivity Center'. But I suppose the situation was clear enough).

Question: Never having had to do this before - can I assume that using the download is fairly self explanatory? My data is fairly well backed up.

It is an easy install, but you will want to read and adhere to the installation instructions at that link.
