Replacement for the transparent LCD surface film?

I've got some small scratches on the my T42 14.1" LCD. It seems that they're very small surface scratches on the transparent matte film that covers the actual glass portion of the display (i.e. the film that gets dirty with fingerprints, dust etc.).

Can this transparent film be replaced? If yes, can it be ordered from IBM?

It cannot be ordered from IBM. It cannot be replaced without a clean room, or it will look worse than when it started. The most likely outcome of such a repair attempt would be a dead LCD and cuts on your hands from getting the frame off.

Could the scratches be polished off? There is some wadding/ cotton wool cleaner in the UK called Duraglit which I have used to remove scratches from a plastic watch glass. (Duraglit is used to clean brass, silver, etc. I have no idea if it is available in other countries or if it has the same name.)

No guarantee that it will solve your problem, but could be worth a try on an old screen if you get hold of one.

This is the polarizer on the LCD. There are companies that rework LCDs that do this kind of work, but not at consumer level.

If the polarizer layer isn't removable, I'll try to look into some kind of anti-glare screen protector to cover the LCD, just to be on the safe side.
