A30 does not boot

#1 Post by toad » Wed Jul 09, 2008 3:32 am

Hi,

from one day to the next my trusty A30 stopped. It even refuses to show the boot screen. No fan, just a click from the speakers, all diodes for a short period and then only one diode - and that was it :(

I have searched the forum but have not come across anything that might help me here.

I am not adverse to opening the thing up and checking things - but where to look?

Any help/advice is most welcome!

Thanks in advance

Let's try this: remove the battery, media and hard drives and unplug the AC adapter. Press the "power" button ten times in a row, holding it down for ten seconds each time, and thirty seconds the last time.

Plug the AC adapter back in and keep your fingers crossed...

Let us know whether this worked and good luck...

Remove the miniPCI card, CDC, both Ultrabay devices, HDD and one of the two SODIMMs then try reboot.

If that fails, try the other SODIMM in the same slot.

If that fails, try both SODIMMs in the other slot.

Ouch! Well, I'll try some more zen like pressing of buttons in that case :D

So what went wrong with the mobo? Do you know? Is there a history of such occurences?

I have just finished repairing an A30P. When I got it, it had the same symptoms as described in this tread.
The problem was a missing inductor at the bottom side of the mother board.

Loose inductors has been discussed a lot in relation to the t23, so I was not planning on posting a story of this repair,
but I can do so if there is any demand for it.

Thank you very much for that, SMA. A good piece of work and great scans.
