New screen wanted

#1 Post by jdhurst » Wed Jul 09, 2008 6:23 pm

I have a T61P that came with a 4:3 screen (delicious!). Unfortunately, all I could get was 1400x1050 pixels and it is too hard to read. I have normal eyes with my reading glasses, but it is still too tiny to read. Lower resolutions really do not come out properly.

Can anyone imagine a modern screen for this box that would be 1024 x 768 native resolution?

Thanks, ... JDH

Just buy an other panel and swap ! You can order any FRU from Lenovo. TFT panel are standardised, so any 14" 4/3 XGA panel will fit. You can also order from LCD on line store.

BTW, can you run 3D Mark 2006 on your laptop and tell me details scores ? Thank you.

Thank you, I will see about ordering a screen from my Toronto vendor. Right now, most surprisingly, I set the existing screen to 1024 x 768 and it looks very good. I am very suprised, because I think I did this prior to SP1 and it looked dreadful. So I may be able to live with what I have.

The Vista rating on this box (two processors, 3 Gb of ram and 7200-rpm hard drive is about 3.5). I don't know what good is, but the machine plods along decently well. I only use business applications and no games, videos, movies, sound of any kind whatever, so the CPU needs are exceedingly low.

Cheers, ... JDH

Perhaps first time you set the screen it XGA, graphic driver was using 16bit colors. SP1 may correct it and upscaling is far better in 32bit colors rendering than in 16bit.

Here is what I get with my T61p 15.4" (capture is in french) :

I just looked again for the detail.

Calculations me: 5.3 you; 5.4
Memory me: 5.0 you: 5.0
Graphics me: 3.5 you: 5.9
Gaming me: 4.0 you: 5.4
Disk me: 5.3 you: 5.2

So on the important measures, I get the same scores as you. On the things I don't care about, I get vastly lower scores.

I don't know why, but I am not bothered in any way, so I leave well enough alone.

Thanks, ... JDH
