X61 - Buy now?

#1 Post by siRAULo » Thu Jul 10, 2008 12:29 am

Hi everyone,

Although I am still using my T23 with pride, I have finally saved up enough money to buy a new X61. Just a few questions I have for you guys:

Do you expect the price to drop on the x61 anymore before the x200 is released?

Once the x200 officially comes out, would I still be able to order a x61 direct? Or will it effectively be discontinued once it's replacement is officially revealed?

Will ordering with an 8-cell really delay my laptop 4-6 weeks?

Thanks in advance. I've worked hard to finally pay for this myself, and I just want to make sure I'm getting the most out of it.

Probably not very much although prices on used models seem to drop and some refurbs/channel overstock may come down. If you plan to order CTO - the recent prices are probably pretty close to bottom.

Generally you can for at least a few months - but some options may be limited and you may need to call rather than use the web.

Probably

If you like the X61 - current pricing is probably an excellent deal. It is a great machine. In my mind, the new machine offers one important addition - digital video output. If this is not critical to you, you can probably save $500 or so by getting an X61 instead.

About $800 last December is the lowest I've seen the X61. I'd say if you get close to that I'd buy. I don't think they'll go any lower CTO. Of course I didn't think they'd go that lower either. There have been a couple times the X60 has shown up in the Outlet Store for $600. Needless to say it wasn't often and they didn't last long.

That's when I bought mine. I haven't seen prices that low since and given the exchange rate issues I doubt they will get there.

Andrew and Fred,

Thank you for your responses. I just ordered my x61. I was hoping to see the unveiling of the x200 to confirm my want of the x61, but I just couldn't wait.

If anyone is interested, here's my config:

Thanks again for the input!
